“On the path to happiness, a life without hardship and sacrifice isn’t measurable or appreciated”

So true is the statement above. There are many things in our lives that we so easily take for granted. Only in the absence of these things are they sometimes truly appreciated. I write in my book “Woman Talk! The Encrypted Language Women Never Wanted Men To Know” about our “Pie of Importance.” It is important to understand and acknowledge the different “slices” of importance in our lives, how they relate to each other, and how to keep them in balance.
One important “slice” of life for most of us relates to our personal finances. Many people are struggling in this area, and keep waiting to get to the “measurable or appreciated” part. For many, it is just not coming and they don’t understand why. They keep telling themselves, “It will get better when….”, but “when” keeps getting pushed back to a later date.
The good news is, the secret to improving your personal finances is within YOU! The bad news is, the secret to improving your personal finances is within YOU! For those of you who have succeeded in anything in your life, this statement will make perfect sense to you. Drive, focus, and persistence will help you attain your goal – no matter what it is. Finances cannot be treated any differently. The problem comes when we attempt to figure out how to make this happen and try to go it alone.
I have worked with clients over the years ranging from all sorts of financial struggles and situations. The common thread, however, comes to a basic lack of education. With our current educational system in regards to personal finance, this should not come as a surprise. One of the analogies that I share with clients right off is suppose we went back 12,000 years ago to hunter / gatherer times, and you were in charge of implementing a formal educational curriculum for the masses. What do you feel would be the most relevant topic? The answer, of course, is topics on hunting and gathering – lead this much before this animal, don’t eat these berries they will make you sick, etc.
This makes sense until we look at our present day educational system in our socioeconomic society, and discover that we are really taught very little about socioeconomics. Personal finance is something that we often times were taught very little (if anything) about. For this reason, it is not surprising that so many people are struggling today. Fortunately, one of the best things that I learned in college is that you have to continue to self-educate after your college years are over. Also, I was fortunate to learn that one area relevant to my success and well-being should be a “slice” of personal finance.
I have read and studied many different books on the topic, and had my fair share of trials and errors, and successes and failures. Luckily, my mindset has always been to grow, learn, and persevere through it all. One amazing revelation that I discovered was that many people were broke regardless of their income levels. I was amazed to see someone that made $20,000 a year be broke, and then someone who made $120,000 a year be broke too. Mathematically I thought “just give the $20,000 a year family the income of the $120,000 a year family, and they should be set!” Only, this doesn’t turn out to be true.
This is where I began to understand the psychology of money, and how it affects us. It is human nature to want more, and for many people their financial plan centers around always wanting about 10% more than they currently have. If you break this mentality down, it is easy to understand how absurd it is. A person who creates wealth understands this psychology of money, and learns to have a better appreciation for the resources that they already have. I write extensively on this subject in the book “Change One Thing: Take Your First Steps Towards Massive Success.” It is also one of the many topics that I teach to my clients when helping them reach their own financial successes and dreams. Changing the way we think about money, and educating ourselves on ways to improve our personal finance, will free us from a burden that so many have been struggling with.
These concepts, strategies, and mental shifts took me from a negative net worth to being a millionaire within a 10 year period, and a multimillionaire in the next 10 year period. I do not teach “get rich quick” formulas for they do not really exist. I teach people to open their minds, to engage their focus and energies, and to commit to improvement like they never before thought possible. The secret to improving your personal finances is within YOU! Reach out to me if you want to learn how to “Choose To Be Wealthy.” Now, 3,2,1...Let's Grow!
